The weekend started on Saturday with a welcome meeting at the salle de fete where we were welcomed by the Mayor.
Keith Hayward, made his first speech as the new chairman of the DTA to thank the French for their warm welcome and their hospitality.
Patrick Binks, our retired chairman, was presented with a medal of honour recognising his 12 years of service as chairman.
Keith presented our French friends with a plaque of friendship which now hangs proudly in the hall.
The first day ended with a fantastic meal at Saint Cyr golf club.
Amazing views across the lovely course where we shared a fantastic meal and a glass of wine or two with all of our French friends.
An excellent evening renewing acquiantances and making new friends whilst watching the sun set across the golf course.
Sunday was spent “en famille”, where our individual hosts entertained us for the day enjoying different experiences around the beautiful region.
Some went sightseeing. Others got together for a music jamming session, whilst others had a pizza making party. Some helped out in the garden, and much more.
On Monday we reassembled for a group day out. The day started with a visit to Biscuiterie de Lencloître.
A biscuit factory that specialises in the local delicacy “Broyé du Poitou”.
This is a shortbread cake which we saw being made and of course had an opportunity to sample!
After a fantastic lunch (obligatory in France!) we spent the afternoon visiting Chateau de Montes sur Guesnes.
This historical chateau housed an immersive and interactive display telling the story of 1,000 years of the history of the Poitou region along with medieval games.
We spent the last evening with our hosts before departing the next morning.
An excellent weekend was had by all.
